View Full Version : Need a nudge - How do I set up page to display listing details

Hello,
Just purchased ( licensed )and downloaded WP Realty.
First of all this is pretty awesome stuff!
However, although I've worked with Open Realty ( no wordpress integration )I'm new to the WP Realty plugin.
I see the tags for listings but how do I set up a page to display the details of the listing ( i.e. when user clicks on a listing where does it display ).
I guess I don't see how the categories and template tags flow together. I want to take advantage of the power of Wordpress in conjunction with WP Realty. But need a little help. Step by step for setting up one page, etc.
I want to use this plugin for rental properties and other lists but not sure of the best structural strategy to follow.
I was looking for some examples to help inspire me or make me understand better. For example are the template tags the only tags I need?
Tutorials, videos, templates ...anything!
This forum looks like virgin territory but I hope someone is listening.
Thanks for any response!

I'm wondering if PM means Plugin Membership? If so I only see a transaction ID.
Is that what you want? Sorry about not following the lingo!
PM = private message - just click on someones name to get that option.

Clicking the link/image in the widget on the sidebar for the white house listing goes to url http://xxxx/hello-world/listing-1-listing which just displays my home page of xxxx even though the url has hello-world/listing-1-listing in it. Am I doing something wrong here? This is version 2.0.1 trial with wp 2.8.6 maybe I missed a step along the way? Thanks Jared/others.

Hey the reason for this is you need to set the default path for the plugin to work.
For example. If you want your listings to show up as any of the following;
http://www.mydomain.com/mls/
http://www.mydomain.com/listings/
http://www.mydomain.com/properties/
http://www.mydomain.com/realestate/
and so on then you need to create that page first.
So create a page titled /realestate/ and then put in the default tag for {wp-realty searchpage}
Once you do this you end up with all your URL's set correctly. It is highly suggested that you use the permalink structure with a trailing slash.

Thank you Jared, that solved my problem.
I created a page with the wordpress page creator, went into that page, copied the permalink for it and then entered it in the wp-realty settings. Worked like a charm. Thank you.

SRobb, when you created the page, copied the permalink and then entered it in wp-realty settings, would you be willing to tell me what field in the wprealty configuration settings you entered that URL link into. I'm just hitting a brick wall for some reason.
If you can name the field, maybe I can move forward. All the documentation links go to a 404 error page so I"m having a rough time of figuring a few things out.
thanks for any help you can offer

Hi WWW,
You shouldn't need to set that in WP Realty. Just make sure your SEF URLs are on in WP. Then when you create a page and past in one of the template tags. All the rest of urls should format from there. At least that's what happened for mine, I was running in circles because the video doesn't include that part.

Hi Thrawn, thank you so much for your comment. When you say "make sure your SEF URL's are on in WP", do you mean specifically to select "Settings/Permalinks/ and then choose custom permalinks with something like: /idaho-real-estate/postname%/ ??
In all the sites I've setup I haven't really seen anything that talked specifically about Search Engine Friendly URLs except knowing the permalinks page is an element I always adjust. could you confirm that a little more for me?
thanks much!!

Sorry for WP I meant WPRealty. Make sure that has SEF URL turned on. In Wordpress you just want the /%postname%/ Looks like you have that all set up properly

Jared, at www.KooskiaIdahoRealEstate.com (this is my dummy site) I created a page called "idaho-real-estate". When you go to that page where I pasted the default tag for {wp-realty searchpage} http://kooskiaidahorealestate.com/idaho-real-estate/ it gives visitors the opportunity to search.
Are there any tags available yet that just list out every single listing if someone just wants to see everything?
If you look in backend under Template tags that'll give you all the ones that currently work. In your case you're looking for {wp-realty searchresults}

Yeah Thrawn, I pasted that tag into a new page at http://kooskiaidahorealestate.com/listings/ and its showing some oddball page with the Washington listing, which is the default listing that I've deleted. I've entered 4 listings but just having a bear of a time with this plugin. I'm always the one who "gets it". But in the case of WPRealty, its getting the best of ME.
I'm getting pretty frustrated.

You could also do a regular link and point it to http://kooskiaidahorealestate.com/search-results/
Support around here isn't exactly the best...**Hint guys - we could use some documentation or your participation in forum.
We're (I am) putting together as much as possible together (videos) and I hope to get them done by Monday to go along with our 2.0.5 and our relaunching of this websites new design.

Not sure if you figured it out yet but, I created the page simply by going to the left side of wordpress doing Pages - Add New. All I wrote in the page itself was {wp-realty searchpage} then updated it. I had called it "xxxxx for sale" with xxx being my website name since it relates to the style of house I have devoted the site to. I do not think I put it anywhere else. If I remember right it , it just did the rest on its own and worked.
Did you figure it out?
one thing to keep in mind - if you have tested various pages with {wpr-tags} and then deleted them then you will need to click on the trash link and fully delete them - otherwise they will still be seen as pages with tags and will cause issues.

Chad is there more wpr tags then the ones listed under Template tags?
Also not to hijack thread. But can you respond to my post in Addon Discussion. In OR everything runs through index so addons are easier. Here it can't be same...will stop here so not to continue hijack.

Hi Chad, that was really helpful. I was really on the right track, and had setup correctly, but just looking at your settings really solidified things. THANKS very much.
I'll wait until next week to chomp at the bit again concerning "horizontal featured listings template tag on the home page."
have a good weekend.

Never thought of that Chad, but it makes alot of sense and I appreciate the tip. :)
I didn't have any pages in trash, so thats not causing me any issues.
